Bayside Secondary School student named to advisory position

Congratulations to Christian McLary, Bayside Secondary School, who has been named to the Minister’s Advisory Council on Special Education. The formal invitation, which came directly from Minister Dombrowsky on December 9, 2010, asked Christian to take the three-year appointment as the only student representative in the province.

Christian is thrilled by this appointment and looks forward to his first meeting with the Minister on Wednesday, February 9.

"It is a real honour to be asked to join this council," he said.

The purpose of the Council is to advise the Minister of Education on matters related to the establishment and provision of Special Education programs and services, including the identification and provision of early intervention programs for students with special education needs.

In particular, the Council:

  • responds to proposals or positions of the Ministry of Education and or other ministries, as submitted to the Advisory Council from time to time;
  • identifies concerns in the delivery of special education programs and services for students and provides information, advice and recommendations for ministry consideration; and
  • submits an annual report and recommendations to the Minister.
