Author/illustrator to visit North Hastings schools

Students at North Hastings Senior Elementary School and North Hastings High School are looking forward to hearing from a graphic novel author and illustrator. Scott Chantler will visit the schools on Wednesday, February 16 to speak about his chosen career path and what it is like to be an author and illustrator.

Chantler will speak with students about writing and illustrating comics, and the process he follows while writing. For example, while researching Two Generals , he learned about the important role of Canada’s Highland Light Infantry in the Normandy Invasion.

Chantler is the author of the recently released comic books Two Generals (McClelland and Stewart), which is based on the experiences of his grandfather during World War II; and Tower of Treasure (Kids Can Press), as well as the previously-released Northwest Passage.

Two Generals was featured in the Toronto Star and on CBC’s The National in November 2010. In addition, Chantler recently drew the cover illustration for the February issue of Kayak, a children’s magazine.

Chantler is an acclaimed graphic novelist and illustrator who has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Eisner, Harvey, Russ Manning, Joe Shuster and Doug Wright Awards. More about Scott Chantler is on his website at: http://www.scottchantler.com/
