Team Quinte brought home Gold from the CWSF

May 24, 2022—Congratulations to HPEDSB students who achieved top honours at the Canada Wide Science Fair held in Fredericton, N.B. from May 16-20, 2022.

  • Surya Narayan Santhakumar and his project Snow Sbot V2 received a gold medal in the Junior Division and a Challenge Award for Digital Technology. His project involved creating a robot that can help seniors by plowing snow from driveways and sidewalks. Surya attends the Virtual School.
  • Harshita Srikanth and her project Creativity = TRIZ won a bronze medal in the intermediate Division. Her project involved creating a novel process for recycling hardcover books by using the TRIZ (The Theory of Inventive Problem-Solving) principles to solve this environmental problem. Harshita attends Eastside Secondary School.

The third team member was Nina Graciano from Eastside Secondary School. These young scientists demonstrated dedication, expertise and determination through their involvement. They have been working continually on their projects for many months.

At CWSF, students competed for almost $1 million in prizes and scholarships. During the week, they took part in many activities including judging, lab tours, inspirational seminars and speeches, chess tournaments, and the awards ceremony.
