November 24, 2020—A new chapter in the book about Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board was written last night when the Board of Trustees approved a new visual identity for HPEDSB.

The visual identity, known as the Achievement concept, represents new beginnings, growth, feeling alive and part of nature/the world around us. A swoop and the sun are prominent elements, illustrating movement and striving for success. The new colours are plum, gold and teal.

Creating a new visual identity coincides with other strategic corporate initiatives currently underway, including the new strategic plan.

A committee consisting of a cross-representation of employees and community partners participated in this initiative through a series of collaborative and engaging meetings over several months.

When the committee first met in November 2019, it had a mandate to do the following:

Committee members responded to the above questions like this:

The committee met six times between November 20, 2019 and February 24, 2020. During that time, it looked at 61 variations.

The existing lighthouse/book logo was adopted in 1998 following the amalgamation of the Hastings County Board of Education and the Prince Edward County Board of Education. Most, if not all Ontario school boards rebranded around the same time. Many have since rebranded with new and fresh visual identities, along with renewed branding to reflect the organization’s updated representation of who it is and what it stands for—essentially its reputation.

The new logo will be rolled out in the coming months on the strategic plan, website, social media, letterhead, banners, presentations, various marketing materials and publication, e-communications, etc. A style guide, which is a set of standards describing how the visual identity may be used and specific colours, among other topics, is also in development.
