May 2, 2018—The week of May 7 – 11, 2018 is a time to recognize three important events related to achieving excellence and equity and well-being, learning & leadership and public confidence in public education.

The vision in the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan [1]: is All students prepared and empowered for the possibilities of today and tomorrow. Through this vision, employees model the eight Growing with Character attributes, which are: caring, cooperation, honesty, humour, integrity, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness.

Education Week [2] is celebrated annually during the first full week of May by school boards and school communities throughout Ontario. It is a time for students, employees, families and school communities to celebrate student achievement and well-being. The provincial this year is Equity in Action

The first full week of May is recognized as Children’s Mental Health Week [4]. It is a time to increase awareness of the signs of child and youth mental health problems, decrease the stigma, and understand that help is available—and it works.

Child and Youth Worker Appreciation Week [5] is also recognized during the first full week of May. It is a time to recognize employees who provide therapeutic interventions for students to promote self-esteem, opportunities to heal and experience positive relationships.
