Home-School Connections: ideas to enhance student learning at home, November 2018

November 26, 2018—Each month, school newsletters include a one-page insert called Home-School Connections. It describes ways in which families can enhance student learning at home in the areas of literacy; numeracy; healthy, caring schools and improving student learning.

  • We Are All Treaty People – Quick Facts:
    • Ontario is covered by 46 treaties and other agreements, such as land purchases by the Crown signed between 1781 and 1930.
    • Treaties are legally binding agreements that set out the rights, responsibilities and relationships of First Nations and the federal and provincial governments
  • What is the All About Me Portfolio (K-6)?
    • All About Me is a student-friendly, interactive portfolio tool that allows K-6 students to reflect on their learning, showcase their growth, and share their achievements.
    • How does my child login to All About Me?
      1. Click on the VLE link from elementary school homepage
      2. Students log-in using their HPEDSB log-in credentials
      3. Click on the myBlueprint link at the top of the page
  • Explora: A Reliable Student Research ToolSearch and filter by type including videos, magazine articles and primary sources
    • Browse categories by topic or reading level
    • Search results include topic summaries – a built-in starting point for research
    • Create your references page with the automatic citation tool
    • Listen to your research with the Text-to-Speech feature
