Student safety and playground equipment
Student safety is our first priority at Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
From time-to-time, it may be necessary for the principal to declare the school playground off-limits to students during the school day. Factors that may influence this decision include weather and maintenance.
Procedure 556: School Yard Improvement Areas and Playground Equipment, provides direction for appropriate playground equipment use in Section 5. Specifically, it explains that the principal may declare playground equipment out of bounds if conditions depending upon weather and the condition of the equipment.
When playgrounds are declared off-limits, the school may be able to provide students with alternative forms of activities during outside breaks in order for them to engage in fun, physical activity and to support their well-being.
