First Nations Awareness Day event for students, Thursday, May 1, 2014

Students from our eight secondary schools are participating in an awareness event today to learn about First Nations culture and teachings.

DATE: Thursday, May 1, 2014
TIME: 9:00 – 2:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Loyalist College, 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Road, Belleville

According to Troy Maracle, Curriculum Coordinator and the event organizer, approximately 200 students will participate in workshops related to First Nations Peoples.

“This is part of our ongoing work to engage students in learning about Aboriginal culture. The sessions are hands-on and engaging, particularly the one where students will make corn husk dolls,” stated Maracle.

The last session of the day will be a keynote address by Wab Kinew. He will speak about First Nation issues, the importance of getting an education and being true to oneself by knowing oneself.

This evening, Kinew will be the guest speaker at a community event [1].
